Успешный старт первого сезона Overwatch League был слегка омрачен скандалом, который разразился на почве того, что среди игроков (всего их 131), участвующих в киберспортивных соревнованиях, нет ни одной женщины.
В частности, многие недоумевают из-за отсутствия молодой девушки по имени Ким «Geguri» Се Ён, которая является как лучшей женщиной-игроком в {parent-9577} в киберспорте, так и просто лучшим игроком на Заре.
Зрители, надеявшиеся увидеть множество талантов, которые бы отражали разнообразную аудиторию игры, были разочарованы. Свое недовольство они начали высказывать в Твиттере, после чего к ним подключились и многие сайты, написавшие новости и статьи по этой теме.

Некоторые даже написали о том, что Ким Се Ён не была принята ни в одну из команд именно потому, что она женщина. А оправдания касательно ее отсутствия называли слабыми и смехотворными.
Так, например, некоторые организации в качестве причины отсутствия девушки указывали на языковой барьер и высказывали опасения касательно ее совместного проживания с другими игроками. Еще они остерегались того, что пресса такое решение могла бы назвать пиар-ходом.

Что касается самой Geguri, то вскоре после начала скандала она сказала, что ее неучастие в Overwatch League никак не связано с тем, что она женщина. Кроме того, она чувствует себя весьма некомфортно из-за всех этих споров.
